I am trying to think ahead, and if the Boop has a flat, she will need a jack. I know I could use any kind of jack as long as it fits under the seat but I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of jack came original.

And how any of you dealt with the jack question for your ride. I searched every way I knew and came up with no responses in the forum search.

Hope we will never need one but that is wishfull thinking.

I think I would consider AAA for the Boop. Having an 18 year old daughter I have already thought all this stuff through. Not long ago there was a story in the news where this 18 year old was coming home from her boy friends house late and ran out of gas. She called her mom on the cell and told her she had run out and that she could see a gas station and was going to walk for help. She never made it and they found her a couple of days later. It is scary to me that she was abducted in the 5 minutes that it would have taken her to walk to the station that she could see. That tells me that there are opportunists out there everywhere with abduction on their minds just waiting for someone to be vulnerable.
Anyway, it would be good insurance in addition to the jack. As far as the original jack goes, I seem to remember them being a bottle jack type with a knob that urned at the bottom with a handle. Probably not the safest thing. I would think it would be best to shop around for something with a fairly broad base and a top that would have turned up edges that would cradle the axle to minimize the potential for slipping off.
    Good question.

    Aaa

Is that Alcoholics Anonomous Association:eek: She don't drink:D

Just had to try to be funny didn't I

Oh well, that's why i'm not a comedian or however you spell it.

Great idea, never thought about AAA. As protective as I am of the Boop that would be great insurance... along with a sawed off shotgun.

I'll have to check into that, thanks for the idea.

    You got it Gater!

Yeah- the jack she'll need is the one in your ride. It will be activated by a simple phone call followed by directions on how to get to where she is!;)
My memory is as bad as can be, (another soda from an aluminum can, please...) but it seems that my 50 (years ago) had a bumper jack that actually bolted down- somewhere. I guess I could dig up my manual and see what it says. (even if it IS a Chevy and not a GMC... I'm still crushed...)

    Sorry about the chevy thing

Yep, the BEST jack is a quick dad. She has my number programed into button #1. Hope that is a good sign. Anyway, she calls me for everything. always great to hear her voice. If you fellows cant tell I am extremely PROUD of my children, I sure didn't get what I deserved from the Lord.

Well maybe the best thing would to put no jack in at all and just make sure she has a phone charger in case her phone battery gets low... Thing is if I don't put one in, someday that sorry old boy she'll be with might have to change a tire and wouldn't have a jack. THAT IS IF HE KNOWS HOW TO CHANGE A TIRE:eek: Well, I guess the Boop could show him:D :D :D

BTW - I love GMC's too, I'd buy one if I found one

    Ohhh Okay...

You might know by now, I just can't pass on some things... Okay! I can't pass on A LOT of things! Being proud of your children is a GREAT thing! I'm hoping like all getout that my daughter adopts my love for ADs and looks as proud as your daughter does.

Now I have a no-brain idea. (And this is one of those, "If all else fails" ideas.) A can of Fix-a-Flat. I've never used it, I know it junks your tire, but! If it will WORK, and get her to safety- ?

Now I must go play dolls with my daughter who has waited this whole time to "Play with me daddy?";)

    Go to it!!!

That's worth a million can's of fix-a-flat times a million. We'll go to our graves regreting a lot of things, but one of them will not be the time we spent with our children:D

You got me rambling now, but in my line of business, I've heard a lot of regrets at bed sides, but I've NEVER heard "I regret spending time with my family" and I don't think I ever will

I'm proud of ya, give er a hug for all us ol codgers. :D

Tailgater is right about the jack being a bottle type. Boop would need to gain about another 60 to 70 pounds to use one. The handle folds up when not in use for storage purposes. I've got pics of them somewhere and if i can find them, i'll try to post them. I like the cell phone jack better, too.

    50-60 pounds

I hope she don't gain that much weight, I'm over weight enough for both of us at 6'1", 200lbs.

I prefer another option :D , besides the huge jack or the boy. Lets see... in her emergency kit she will need, a flash light, shot gun, pepper spray, cell phone, charger, billy club, spare cell phone battery, more pepper spray...

That seems to cover it fairly well:D

I still am interested in seeing the pictures.

go to www.1954Advance-Design.com Click on 1954 Miscellaneous Documents. Then click on Truck tool kit & misc. tools. Tim's get a great site and very details oriented. (not to mention that most of his stuff was obtained using original documents, drawings, books, etc)

    Coolllll

Wow, I have those exact tools. My grandfathers brother called me about 25 years ago and said (i'm cleaning out my shop and want you to have some of my old tools and things). Needless to say, I was quick on my feet and got over there right then thinking I was going to get some great hand and shop tools. NOT!! I didn't want to hurt his feelings so I took boxes of old tools and what I thought then was worthless junk.

As I mentioned before, when it comes to tools, i'm a PACK-RAT.... big time. Well I just went out to the garage, opened my wrench drawer and SUPRISE!. There they were, all three wrenches, and I have an old ball-peen hammer he gave me, probably came with that set, I've got some very old spark plug wrenches stored away and I'll have to get them out and check but I think I have those also. As far as the jack goes, from what I can tell from the picture I have two or three that look just like that. I know the handle is the same design, just don't know what it came out of.

THANKS KEN!, If an man want's to know, I guess all he has to do is ask, around here.... YOU THA MAN :D

    You got a deal

I'll try to get all of it together over the next few weeks and let you know what I have. Don't let me forget. I think I only have one set of the wrenches but MAYBE 2 or three jacks if they are correct for that kit.

    Under the seat!

I'm pretty sure that the tool kit, jack and handle were just thrown under the seat. I could be wrong. Jute backing under the seat would cause it not to bang around and stay put.

How about a different point of view.....

Have you already gotten the tires for the truck? If not or maybe you might check into switching tires, but check into run flat tires. I deal with them all of the time and they really do work well in emergency situations. You can run on them with no air in the tire for several miles before the tire just turns to shreads. Like I said good in a emergency situation. Also if you do put the jack in there then also make sure that you put atleast two wheel chocks in there. You don't want that truck to try and roll away if you have the rearend jacked up on an incline if you know what I mean. Always try and think safety when lifting any vehicle. If its a little bigger jack that you want and need to mount it somewhere then try and find a place under the bed you could make a bracket for and mount the jack to it with an easy way to get it loose. I could be crazy about this stuff or maybe it's just late and I need to go to bed.

    Flat Tire !

All the above is really good advice , I'd like to mention that carrying a gun may cause her Police problems but one of those spark zapper things is always legal..

That being said , .410's with an 18.1" barrel loaded with fine shot , works very nice .

Anyway , when I was hard @ work one fine day in 1971 , a car clattered into the Atlantic Richfeild station I worked at and the boss told me to replace the left rear tire & wheel with the spare ~ I went out to look and there was NO TIRE and the car had been driven on the rim so long , the edges had folded back and wrapped around the brake drum , I had a Devil of a time getting it off and was cursing mightly the stupid woman who'd driven it this way instead if changine it as jack and lug wrench were in the trunk and the weather was fine etc........

The Boss came out to me and said " that's my wife's car and I told her not to stop , just keep on driving slowly untill she got it here to the garage " he didn't want anything to happen to her and after all the price of a new tire & wheel is better than loosing a loved one..

I followed this advice and now SWMBO and all my ex-lady freinds know to just flip on the hazzard lights and limp on home on the rim idle the car along if necessary to go far ~ if the tire/wheel or car is ruined , so be it , I'll just get another , there's no replacing loved ones .

HAMMER this important message into The Boopster's head please ! she can go for _miles_ on a flat untill she reaches a well lighted , busy place to stop and perhaps change it or to wait for you to arrive.....

Oh yes ~ we are talking about original jacks right ? Chevy used the same screw typ bottle jack from 1948 up into the 70's that I know of , maybe longer as I spotted quite a few in P-A-P over the weekend when I was out with Lyman searching for parts...
