Hi Everyone. I was wondering if I could get some help on my engine and head combo. I have a 55 1st series with a hydramatic trans that I am restoring back to original cond. The block# is (3835911) Vin# is (00823 3IF55M) and the CON# (CON3 J21 4) The head # on this engine is (3836848). I also have another 55 1st series with a 4sp trans that has a different head number on it, same block number. I would like to make sure I put the correct factory head on my truck with the hydro trans. The block# on the truck with the 4sp is (3835911 same block number) Vin# (0050841 F55x) and the con# (CON4 A18 5) the head # on this one is (3835913). I know they will both work, but I want the truck as original as possible, I dont want a replacement head that was put on after the orginial gave out some years later. Any help would be great Thanks Chuck
Welcome Chuck! According to the info I've got, the block number corresponds to '53-'55 235 engines. Head number 3835913 is for '54-'55 235's. Head number 3836848 is for '56 and up. The "848" is a much more desirable head, for what it's worth! Again, welcome. If you've been lurking for awhile, you know we like pictures! Ken
Hi Chuck, I also have a 55 1st series 235 in my parts truck and it has the same head 3836848 but like Ken said the book shows it to be a 1956. John
Madness Only a trailer queen should be built with that 913 head . It's *very* crack prone . The 848 head is the best one ever made . Few will ever know if the head is original by reading the casting #'s and anyone who coments or looks down upon you for using the later head , is an idiot who clearly knows NOTHING about old Chevy trucks !
