My 50 chevy 1/2 ton 216 when idling is reading 180 with the needle actually on the zero of the 180 number - when driving it drops down to between the 1 and 8 of the 180 mark is this proper reading or a little too hot?
thanks for the help. I installed a new 180 degeree thermostat as there was none, and put on a new 4lb cap and hoses.

180 sounds good to me. Mine runs fine at about 190.

    Coolant Temp.

    Perfect !

It's right where it should be .

Unless it boils over during long hill climbs this summer , leave it alone ~ if it boils over , swap to a 160° thermostat .
