What is the best way to put on the front fenders on my 50 gmc I was thinking to bolt the inner fender to the fender and then bolting the inner fender to the truck. Plus i got the inner fenders painted and the edge of the fenders painted so i want to put them on carefully so i didn't scratch the paint. And then i got the peice on the gmcs that bolt to the front fenders.
Jason, either way is acceptable. Remember to put the anti-squeak on the inner fender first. Do you have a copy of a shop manual? It gives you a pretty good idea of how to do it. If you don't, go to www.chevy.tocmp.com and look at the 48-51 chevrolet shop manual, section 11, and it will give you some good ideas. Also, get you some masking tape, and tape all of the parts that you plan to assemble that might get scratched up, tape them, then assemble loosely, and when you get ready to put the final twist on the bolt, remove the tape, and viola, no scratches.
Use painters tape if you use any tape at all so that it doesn't leave any nasty residues plus it sticks a little better.
Larry, the anti-squeek is the kit that goes in between the inner fender panels and the fenders. All vendors have them. The fender welt goes between the fender and cab. The original anti-squeek was held on by staples. Modern methods (if you want to cheat) include a general adhesive. Also known as inner fender seals www.classicparts.com/prodinfo.asp?number=37-725
