It being Fathers Day and never had kids it was mighty quiet around here. I went to the shop and there was: 1. An extra block for my 37 Buick 2. Two foot square scrap of plywood 3. Ten inch piece of 2x6 4. A 2 3/4" diameter driveshaft from an unknown source Anyone knows when put together these items just scream out "transmission adapter". My 37 was bought new with the optional "city gears" (4.44's) meant for a car that was going to be used almost exclusively for urban driving. The advertisement was that with the torque of the straight eight one seldom need to shift gears---all fine and good for 20 cent gasoline. I have several Borgwarner OD transmissions that are 30% overdriven which will give a final drive of 3.11, much better for todays roads and $4 gas. I could have mounted the Chevy trans to the Buick bellhousing but by whipping up an adapter to mount the Chevy bellhousing to the Buick block it means ANY Chev trans, standard or automatic, will fit up to the back of the engine. Oh yeah, the final adapter won't be plywood and 2x6.
