I've been looking for a source for the big concave washers used on the foreward cab floor mounting bolts. I found a kit that has them for a BIG truck but I don't need the whole kit of parts I can't use. I just need the washers? Anyone know where to find these things?
I found a near match on an old cable spool. Most electric contractors & cable companies throw the spools out when they are done with them.
I made up a very simple set of male and female dies on the lathe and then formed them on the 60 ton hydraulic press. Just used some scrap 16g, drilled the hole with a step drill, and finally bolted a bolt/nut in the hole to chuck up in the lathe and turn the outside edge round and to size. Mine probably cost the customer fifty bucks while Joe's are free. Guess who's smarter.
Who's Smarter? Hey, Evan Now that you have the dies made and expierence in manufacturing what's the chances you'd make another set?
Craig, I can probably fix you up but really need to slightly radius the top of the female die. It's square now and leaves pretty serious gouge marks and I think this will also cut down on wrinkles. I'll dig them out after this heat wave ends, maybe by Monday, and see what happens. For my application I just wanted the thicker load bearing surface and didn't worry about cosmetics; it's under the floor mat anyway.
Washers and such! Wow, what can I say. I hope it's not a lot of trouble. I did locate what I think will work but I'd have to buy them to see. The LMC website has some body mount parts and they have what looks like the right type washer but who knows until you buy one and check it out. If you can make them I'd be eternally gratefull. They don't have to be pretty, just functional. Like you said they are under the floor mat anyway. If it's too much hassle let me know and I'll go for the LMC items and see if they will work. Thanks a bunch Craig
Still Trying to get it together Hey, I guess this dropped off the radar. I stumbled across it and was wondering if anyone has found a source or if Evan is still considering making some. Thanks Craig
Craig, I found the dies so if you need some I'll stamp out a few. Shouldn't run more than three bucks apiece. We usually only make parts for our own use but these are so simple it's no problem.
Washers and such! Evan, Thanks so much. I would like to order three sets if you don't mind. Two for the trucks I'm working and the one my son is working on. If you PM me with the total cost plus shipping and how you would like payment I'll get it to you. Thanks again. Can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Craig
