Which 235 is better?

The ' 848 ' cylinder head is the latest and greatest 235 head made ~ it's reasonably high compression and very crack resistant .

Parts interchange?

Ok great thanks. So curious what parts will swap? I know I need a short water pump, but will the 216 fan blade fit? Also will the harmonic balancer fit off the 216? The 235 harmonic balancer shaft looks bent after pulling off to clean.

Ok here are the #s I found on block is 3769716 G 15 0, and on the head is 3836848. Anything special about these?

If I remember Correctly, the G is the 7th month, 15 is day of month, and 0 is the year of manufacture, in this case 1960. Ken or someone else will correct the info if needed, I'm sure.

The newer the better, stay away from the 54 engines.

When it comes to transplanting full pressure 235 motors into vehicles that originally had the 216 babbitt pounder motors.....
I actually prefer the 1954 motors as they still used the earlier 216 water pump & they were easy to install without the problems associated with the long shaft water pumps of the 1955-1962 motors.

Engine color?

Been reading thru the forums and see grey should be the color. So What color grey is the best to paint the motor and where to get from?

Engine colors are very specific to year of manufacture & specific application.

Once you start installing different motors from different years into different years & models of vehicles..... "correct colors" get thrown out the window.

Engine paint

Ok thanks for link, I understand it don't have to be the same as stock color, but would like to paint it the grey that was the stock color for these engines. Just curious what paint works the best?

More important than the ' best ' paint it not using cheapo paint and taking the time to really scrub the engine clean of rust and old gaskets , grease buildup in crevices etc.

I'm going crazy trying to get a 250 Thinwall 6 painted ~ I now have the engine proper painted and it looks fine but all the accessories have so much crap , old paint , grease , ATF & some taffy like stuff on them it's maddening .

I finally made my first pass of black paint last night , I didn't have the time to take pictures but I will soon .

FWIW , I'm using Dupli-Color this time out ~ I usually use Rustoleum as it almost never peels / cracks .

if you have a pep boys auto they sell a rattle can gray its called ford gray good color and wont cost a lot to pretty it up

I have found that the easiest way to prep a used motor for paint is to douse it with oven cleaner.... scrub it down with brass parts cleaner brushes & then hose the crap outta it.................... repeat as necessary.
