Hello, I ask for the mark on the flywheel for adjusting the ignition and now I have another question, which is the mark for the adjustment on the flywheel for adjusting the valves? The steel bal also? I adjusted the valves when they both open when the pointer at the flywheel house is showing to the triangle. Did I made a mistake? Wolfgang
when you adjust the valves, adjust the intake with the exhaust all the way open and adjust the exhaust with the intake all the way open. Then go to the next cylinder and start all over until you get to the end....Big Tim
Thanks Hello big Jim, thanks! So I understood you right, that the top dead center has nothing to do with the steel ball on the flywheel, this one is only for adjusting for the ignition. Wolfgang
If you follow the most excellent valve adjustment procedure posted on Deve's website by our own Nathan Hall, you will see that TDC is indeed important when adjusting the valves properly. Follow the instructions in the link below to the letter and you will have the very best adjusted valves for your engine. However, I did ask Nate the question about the ball in the flywheel vs. the triangles or "Chevrons". The triangles or "Chevrons" are actually the TDC mark and it is that mark which should be used when following the procedure in the link. The steel ball in the flywheel is purely for ignition timing.
