Spent the day getting Christine (My wife's name for the truck) ready for the beach show. Painted some cool scallops on the fenders, put up mexican blanket headliner, fixed a few things, had lots of stops to make. Truck ran great all day, pulling into my street, grinding noise from the trans. and it acts like it isn't quite in gear. Great. Tomorrow will be a thrash to swap out a borrowed trans from B.J. We leave thurs. morning. Then next week I had planned to do the 700r swap. Thats hot rodding!
Russ, is this your avatar truck that did this to you? Chevy trucks at least crap out in your driveway. That other brand waits 'til you are f-a-r, f-a-r, F-A-R from home. I can only assume you had your Chevy parked to close to that "other" truck... Good luck with what lies ahead.
Yep, its my chebby. The ferd is at the body shop, the frame is still in my driveway...... Of course, I had a spare t 350, but sold it to a buddy for a rebuild core in October.......
Russ, Your place is starting to sound like a pit area at Bristol speed-way. How fast can your crew swap a tranny. Would love to see pics from the beach show. Flashlight
Jeep Resto Since we are a tiny bit off subject, I will post a few pics of my Wagoneer restoration. Its been fun and finding parts for an 82' is so much easier then a 47'. Flashlight
Russ, As much as it hurts to have to change out the tranny without any prior warning it is still not as bad as what Paul is going through having to stretch the front end of that G just to get it to line up with that buck toof his truck has. I tried to show him a picture of a G that the guy almost had the front pulled out almost but Paul took the fenders off so now the work is ten times harder. If in he had of keep the fenders on he could have taken a 6x6 post and a bottle jack and placed them under the fender well and just jacked that front end into place, or at least with the fenders on he could have taken the headlights out run one end of a 50ft chain into the hole then rap it around a piece of 6x6 then hook the other end to a big old tree, then in reverse backed up at full throttle. I figure two maybe three waks to each side and the truck of his would look good as new. As you can see from the pictures he has a long way to pull the front in order line up with his wheel layout. Also I’m showing a picture of my 52’s long horn so Paul knows others have that horn also. Good Luck, Charles
Just finished. Borrowed a 350t from B.J. first thing this morning. Got mine pulled.....it is a long tailshaft, B.J.'s is a short shaft. Started measuring, the long shaft is the same length as a 700r4. The mount is even the same! So, at 12:15 we head for Cowpens, SC to pick up my 700.Get back about 3:00 and start slamming it in. The shifter was not co operating, had to put in a new set of speedo gears......not working right now, and get it all set up. Had a little issue getting the TV cable adjusted, but I think we have it now. I'm beat. Almost a 12 hour, stressful day.
Hey Russ Grinding noise ? from a Slushbox ?! . That's bad , real bad . I'm happy to hear you got the 700R in there , still an InLiner ? or did you take a wrong turn and slip in a SBC ? . The Wagonner is looking good , is that rust I spy near the L/R taillight ? . I remember the special edition Wagoneers with fake wood siding decals and wide white wall tires , looked pretty spiffy to these old eyes . Anyone remember the Ranchero from " Neighbors " ?? I thought it beautiful , too bad they sank it into the swamp .
Nate, you off your meds again? It was in my truck, with a 350 V8. Made it to the beach and back, no problems.
Right ~ I get that ~ you said it was a Turbo-Hydro 350 , it's extremely rare they make grinding noises..... You may rest assured , I take my meds twice a day . I'm still crazy as a bedbug tho' .
Nate, Just don't let them know your heavily medicated for their protection! Yes I hit some shallow rust in all four corners, and the hood was heavily pitted. I'm going to mask it off and hit those areas with some media blast. The faux wood siding came, cheap crap they were. But it will be all pretty when its done. I screwed up a perfectly good gauge cluster vaneer, this week learning about incompatible paints....more sanding. I'm just not as good with paint as Russ. One thing, I've found all the parts for this in a month...sorta' takes the fun out of the hunt! Flashlight
The 700 has been running problem free....I HIGHLY reccommend them. Still haven't fixed the speedo issue..
Glad to hear the 700r is going strong. Makes me even more excited to get mine in and see it working. I have the itch bad!!! If only I could find a way to take a month off, farm the kiddo out or at least have a babysitter to make sure when he gets bored of handing me wrenches that he doesn't wander in to the road, and convince the wifey that I will be free of all obligations once the truck is up and running......If only! Not that I am trying to rush the process but it would be nice to drive it before the snow flies.
Usually, I fill up in Charlotte, take a liesurely drive to the beach (a 3 1/2 hour trip that usually takes about 5 with all of us and sightseeing/ B.S. sessions), cruise the beach blowing about 1/4 tank of gas with the flamethrowers, driving around, then to a gas stop about an hour from the beach. Usually when we get there I'm on fumes, I've even run out of gas 1/4 mile from there. This time, I still had 5 gallons left! Long live overdrive!
Decent (fuel) Mileage Yes , yes it does ~ That's why I insist on driving a Chevrolet Pickup truck with the I6 engine....
