Need some guidance on replacement of door windows on a 53 Chevy truck. The current windows are plexiglas and when replaced it appears that the lower side door channel guides were removed. I have the old ones but need to be replaced which I can purchase. The challenges is how does one install the side window channels without dismantling the whole door? Anyone with advice and/or pictures can be a great guide for me. Here's looking at you. Jim G
Door channel guides removed ! Jim Welcome aboard . If you make a fri search after logged in , there should be some information and pictures to get from our friend ol`Chebby from his threads " How to assemble an ad " . As i recall there is one on the subject with good information. https://talk.classicparts.com/showthread.php?t=9530&page=6 Martinius.
If you are refferring to the lower window track at the back of the door, it slides in under a small tab at the top (door sill) on most trucks, some have a screw. There are 2 screws in the lower door face that locate the bottom of the track.
As suggested do a search on "window replace". Since yours has a vent window it's usually easier to remove the vent assembly which includes the front channel (division bar) that the window slides up and down in. You can then put the glass in the door, with it's new lower channel installed, let it all the way down, and then reinstall the vent assembly. Often you can just "angle" the division bar to get the window in position and not have to pull it completely. If you're not familiar with it there is a 5/16 bolt (1/2" wrench/socket) inside the door at the bottom of the division bar. I think Deadzone has a picture of an AD door with the outer skin removed which might help.
