Coil should go to the terminal marked SOL on your digram.

    Ign power to BATT.

    GND to gnd.

    iGN SW START TO IGN,

    ACC to ACC,

to check it, hook power to BATT, GND to GND, turn key to first click, sol and acc should now have power. IGN should only have power when key is turned to start. Turn key back to ACC position, ACC only should have power.

I'm not familiar with this particular switch, but I'd bet Ken's life (but not mine;)) you are wrong.

I agree that the BATT connection should attach to the battery, GRND should attach to ground (I've never seen a ground connection on an ignition switch) and ACC to accessories that you want to power (like the radio) with the key in the ACC position. The SOL terminal goes to the S terminal on your starter solenoid if you have one. If you have a stomp starter don't connect the SOL terminal. The IGN terminal connects to the things you want to run while the engine is running. The one place it hooks to for sure is the + terminal on the coil (assuming a negative ground system).

SOL only has power when the key is in the start position.

IGN has power with the key in both run and start positions.

ACC has power with the key in run and acc positions.

I don't know what the ground connector is for, unless this is a lighted switch.

Exactly as Bill stated with the exception being that if you have gone to an alternator in place of the generator then don't use a wire from the IGN terminal to excite the alternator as the engine will keep running with the switch off. Treat the alternator as an accessory in this case.

then replacing with this switch and 8 cyl.,12 volt.

I haven't encountered a switch with SOL, you may be right. That is why I said to check where power is when the key is in different positions.
