Hi all, I am in the mist of rewiring my truck, I am about 3/4 the way complete. But, there are a few items that leave me scratching my head. 1) How do you hook up the Amp gauge? I had one lead going from the Battery to the Amp gauge, and a ground. When I went to test it I smoked the ground, and I hope thats all I smoked. 2) The turn signal, I have hooked it up to take power from a the Amp gauge, and when I turn the signal on there is no flash the bulb simply becomes brighter. Could I have the lights hooked in the wrong way? Any help would be great I don't feel like letting any more smoke out of the wires.
hope this helps I dont hink that wire should go to ground from the Ammeter. Check the schematic for your year here http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/electrical/wiring/index.htm I think you will ee that the hot wire from the starter post goes to the Ammeter and then everything else on th bus goes from the other side of that from either tht post or from the ignition switch. you can thank Ken for the link to the site that is where he sent me. Bill
re reading your post When I reread your post it looks like you sent all ov the battery power through your Ammeter to ground or a direct short essentially equal to putting a wrench between the battery posts you was doing some welding and depending on the amp rating of your battery ( 300 amps in modern cars) you may hae smoked the Ammeter by pegging the needle Bill
welding the wrong way Thanks Bill, Your right I was welding, but I really couldnt see through all the smoke I'll go back out and try again.
The batt wire from the generator or the alternator should go tho the left post of the ammeter, then on to the starter from the right post.
ol' chebby is right on. You wired yours exactly right for a VOLT gauge. On your t/s first check all your grounds, next add another load into your t/s circuit to cause the bimetallic strip in your flasher to heat a bit more. Usually just a test light at the terminal block on the inner fender where the front light hooks on will do it. If having to power another light causes it to blink your flasher is bad or too heavy duty.
