Let me start by saying I've never wired anything on a car before, I've never used a circuit testor and I'm a Beginner willing to learn! I didn't have any problems on the outside of the cab. but, I haven't wired in the pusher fan yet! I've searched through the archived topics and it doesn't seem to focus on what my needs are! I bought a basic 12 volt full wiring harness (alternator) from CD. I have a 6 volt starter via foot starter. I have a hi-output coil and electronic distributor. Inside I have connected runtz-resistors to four 6 volt guages. I have a 12 volt heater motor and a heater switch. I have a 12 volt radio (converted to AM/FM/XM). I have a 12 volt electric windshield wiper motor. I have a 12 volt turn signal. Each will have it's own single fuse connector. Headlight switch from the knob to the end has 6 terminals 1st terminal = unidentified - I put dome & panel lights on it. 2nd = Head - I put the headlamp wire on it. 3rd = Park - I put the parklamp wire on it. 4th = Tail - I put the taillamp and stoplamp wires on it. 5th = Aux - Have nothing. 6th = Bat - I put the battery wire on it. How and where do I connect the 12 volt items listed above so that I don't overload the the system when I turn the key on? If I need connecting wires - please indicate what guage wire I will need? I bought a fuse block CD 55-12252, but I don't know if I need it or not? Thanks Ken
I only had one question - I took a 10 gauge wire and connected it to the 55-59 fuse box, then I connected the wires from the heater (grounded the heater), radio and wipers to the new panel elimninating the need for single fuse connector. I put two runtz resistors to two 6 volt guages. I don't understand why more information on wiring isn't shared in this forum? I spent four hours last night searching the CD archives for my specific problem. There are 118 posts on the subject of wiring including number ID #1414 I asked on 12/03/03 with a reply from Nate and this reply from Tech1 "Just give us a call and we can hook you up"!" We have had people that have no wiring experience at all wire their trucks and were happy with the results"! Ken
I'm sorry Ken ; I would first get a factory shop manual for both the wiring diagram and the photo's it contains as they can be very helpfull . I'd not be wanting to give you bad advice , wiring is tricky , once you've done a ferw it's simple to figure out but always takes time and is tedious work . There are several different light switches that will fit on there , IIRC the original one isn't made anymore . There should be direct , unfused battery current from the load side of the ammeter to the circut breaker input on the back of the switch , then careful testing will reveal what lug is for what output wire.... Since you want to add a TF fusebox , you'd run the taillight wire from the switch to a fuse then jumper it to run at least two tail/park light fuses... You're making a custom setup so no one really knows how to guide you without being there.... -Nate
