Sweet looking 283 motor I like the 283 motors they are one of the best motors chevy made from 1957 to 1967 ten years. The carburetor in your photo looks like a 4 barrel ,you can use a 2 barrel or 4 barrel just depends on what type of intake manifold you use ones for 2 barrel the other is for 4 barrel intake manifold the base the carb. sets on;) I have 3 283 motors they are getting harder to find around each year that passes. Good Luck

    ;) Hi there everybody;)
The carburetor is a Rochester 4 jet 4 barrel, thanks for that.
The question is again witch other can i use that will fit without any problem, without changing the base of the carburetor or fuel line and others?
I have got a tip via mail(don't know ho it is,there was no name) is this correct please ?

You are correct with your initial info. It is a Rochester 4GC, or 4 Jet. These
are NOT very efficient carburetors (no vacuum mixture control save crude on/off
enrichner). Suggest you attempt to locate a Carter WCFB four barrel, quite
efficient w/ vac. metering of fuel, also fits your application w/ NO
    modifications save possible jet change.

Is this Carter 4 WCFB a good option or are there others ? Someone got a good adress on the WWW to check out and find one or another ?
    Thanks and greats from Belgium
    Johan

Edlebrock 600cfm Performer. You might need an adaptor plate though.

I think you have square bore carb there. Any thing with a square bore pattern should work (Holley), if you use a spread bore you will need an adapter plate.
