My 1958 fleetside long bed was to far gone to repair Used it for my rear fender wells of my 58 panel truck Now I can buy me a 1964 fleetside long bed lenght is about the same (98") Only the wheel base is different (127"1964) (123.25"1958) Rear overhung is 47,48"(64) 53,12"(58) But if I extract the wheelbase difference approx 4" It will make a 2"difference I was hurting my small brains on this and thought: try the net Couldn't find something that gave me comfort on the matter So hereby: Does anybody know if this will work on the fender well to axle measurements? A little off wouldn't be a problem (alway's wanted to be different) And how about the frame rails line up Can it be done? Show me what you know about this sites, threads and what ever comes to mind. Thanks for all the tips and tricks Tony
You Say what ever comes to Mind So here is my Opinion! Find the Correct Bed for your truck because i dont think the later model will look good on your truck! You Asked So that is just My Opinion! Allen
I agree with Allen. I have yet to see a non matching bed that looks "better" than what the truck came from the factory with. How about a step side bed? Any '55 through '66 long bed step side will work... probably your best bet.
this will be a cheapo conversion till something good shows up That's why I don't want to do to much on the bed I might make someone else happy with the 64 bed Now it's just laying around picking up rust. If I use it it will be better off And as I said " I like to be different" Some good things come from trying my father used to say (I don't think he meant me with that )
Sounds like you already made up your mind! But lakeroadster might be on to something! take a look at the stepside beds there are allot around and i have seen some Really Cool looking ones lately! Allen
How about a flat bed? I think you'll also find the 60-66 beds are wider than your cab: Widest width of cab, 1958 = 75.86" Width of bed, 1966 = 78.75 What the heck, I'd build a flat bed before I'd use the 60-66.. but that's just me. You say different.. maybe something like this?
Your absolutly right A flatbed it is came across the fleetside bed and bought it before I could say No Always wanted a flatbed fleetside is going to be sold Thanks for the advise Gone be searching for some cheap 2x4's and make a flatbed http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/bed/flatbed_build/index.html
How about a wooden step side bed with steel fenders... http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/blog/index.php/2011/03/1938-complete-wood-bed/
