Henry's is getting a new motor and tranny. Picked up a low mileage 350/ TH350 combo and it is going in asap.

I have spoken with Russ about the whole deal. The stock 3600 tranny cross member will need to be removed and a new one for the 350 will need to be bought or fabbed.

I picked up some biscuit engine mounts already. I have a shinny new 4 barrel carb and intake sitting on the bench. Hugger heads are on the way.

Thanks for the up date on Ol'Henry, you should have him on the road in no time at all.

Thanks for the update! You are an inspiration to my son and I. I have this picture saved as my desktop on my computer at work...

Pick up a dropped trans. crossmember. It is an easy install....more so than making your own.

I was able to sneak away from work for a 1/2 day today. Was able to get the drive shaft and torque tube disconnected form the tranny. The unbolted the front motor mounts and some misc stuff that was in the way.

Then out came the motor and tranny. Wow.......that is heavy!!

My son and I must have scraped 25lbs of crap off the frame.

I then hit it with some heavy degreaser and the pressure washer!!

I cleaned up the SBC as well.

Here's hoping you take the time to re spray that 350 before it goes in....

Remember : someone out there needs your old I6 engine ! do not leave it in the rain please .

    Yup it is getting painted!!

Old 216 has a cracked block, pretty much scrap metal.

    Trust me , it's FAR from ' scrap ' ! .

Many folks are out looking for good used cylinder heads and so on .

It may not have much monetary value but to someone , it's priceless .

I reached out to some locals and there was no response. I am in farm country and these motors are really common. You can buy a good running one for $100 all day long.

I do not have the room......or a desire to keep it. If it was a full pressure 235/250/261/ or 292 I would probably hang onto it. But this 216 is pretty much a paper weight at this point.

For what it is worth, a stock 216 with a 4 speed weighs about 750lbs.

Understood and agreed Coach but I also know that when one is working on an old nail , a spare drive line like you have , is priceless .

The cylinder head alone , if not cracked is a valuable thing .

Me , I tend to grab entire drivelines to scavenge hard ware , brackets , oil pans , accessories and so on , off of , it's always cheaper to pay $100 +/- for the whole greasy lump and have some left overs to peddle or give away .

    Awesome progress today.

Bolted the TH350 to the SBC along with the headers and dropped it into Henry to get a test fit and mock up motor mounts and transmission crossmember.

Went fairly smooth considering I was working solo.

Yes. The bolts were just to hold them while I mocked it up. Now that I have the motor back out, I will do a final weld on everything before paint.

So after thinking about it for the night.....I decided to offset the motor to the passenger side to allow room for the steering box. I had briefly thought about PS......but decided against it for a number of reasons.

So I spent the better part of a day taking apart what I had completed and making room for the steering box.

The passenger side mount had to be shortened and recessed into the frame rail. The driver side was pulled out of the frame rail.

I used some 1/4-20 bolts to hold everything in place while I pulled the motor and to use them as a reference upon assembly.

I was not happy with the initial welds on the drivers side mount, so I boxed it all in. Overkill.....but I will sleep better at night.

After the motor mounts were done....I spaced out the steering box by 1-1/2" with some angle iron and some dom tubing.

The motor has been opened up and looks great. I am going to button it back up, throw a coat of paint on it and call it good.

The punch list is getting smaller!!!
