Build Threads??

I have been lurking around on here for a couple years now however the one thing I haven't seen on this forum is Build Threads on your trucks. I realize most are likely in the same boat as me, Limited funds and time = long slow restoration but I would love to read some build threads on your trucks, regardless of what stage you're at.

I see lots of new threads posted on mini projects for our trucks (ie. door panels, new seats, or new paint but no one starts a full thread on their truck from start to finish. Why not?
 
You called it: time and money.

I bought my truck in September, picked it up in November and have been puttering ever since. MY excuse is that I have no garage, just a slab driveway so I am picking away on my rebuild hoping that the motor lasts until I have a place to rebuild it etc. etc. This is going to take YEARS, which was really my intent in the first place. I LIKE the idea of doing a first step to last restoration thread with pictures etc. but I like working on truck more than I do documenting and posting so ...
 
JoeK, Nice lookin 4x4, you don't see many of those around. you have posted some great pictures on photobucket, you should start a thread on your truck especially since you already have pictures... Lets hear your story!

I think I created something that may match a little bit to what you are referring.

HERE IS THE FIRST COMMENT in my photo album thread:
My hope: In retrospect, I was CLUELESS on the overall process of a frame-off restoration, the total work involved, the money it takes, and the amount of time required. HOWEVER, I GAINED a sense of pride that will last with me until I go to the grave. I will never regret doing this and esp'ly together with my son-in-law, other family, and friends. Now having said that. My hope is to help others, NEWBIEs or not, better understand the "process" and have an appreciation of what is all involved. I have talked to, heard of, and seen several projects which were started and never finished. Individuals have gotten frustrated and given-up on their dream, many in part because they did not understand what they were getting into. So if this photo album can be used to gain a little understanding of the process, then I feel I have "given" something back. (If it is not obvivous, I am a believer in the "pay it forward" concept.) So if anyone is able to pull some value from this or any of my truck related photo albums, please "go for it".

Here is a link to photo album story. However if you use the "slideshow", it will basically only show you the photos every couple seconds. Under each photo is "comments" that tell a story of the process of doing a frame off resto mod on one of my trucks. So click on first photo and read verbage below each photo before moving onto next. OR select any photo, click on it, and read comments below.

LEYLAND, I realize my photo album approach could have been documented better, but it gives an idea. Is this the type of thing you were thinking?

Build Threads

colettesbro, I just finished viewing your post. I am one of those new guys who don't have a clue. I bought a 66 to fix up and later found out the body is in worse shape than I thought. I can do the machanical work needed but have ZERO experience with body work. ( I even had two estimates to have it done, 5 to 6 thousand, Forget it) Now at a low point, i just sat here looking at your work thinking, I'm retired, not trying to frame-off a show truck, and I have done other things in my life for the first time so what the hell. Maybe I'll give it a try! Thanks.

Sounds like you are going to start your restoration.

THUMBS UP to you!!!!!

Remember to CELEBRATE Milestones !!
Each milestone is a cause for celebration. Don't wait til the end to celebrate or you'll loose hope and give up somewhere during the process. It is a process !!!

Remember, anybody can go out and BUY a nice truck. However you are building one. And when you are done, you can not equal that level of pride.

Also note: you may be able to buy a restored truck cheaper than you can restore one. But where is the pride in that.
