Dangit ! Saturday my 1976 GMC had it's inaugural work voyage , I towed a big assed trsailer that weighs more that it does , out of the SFV , over the hill and up to Phelan , a small town in the high desert . No temperature nor fuel gauges , it purred all the way there albiet slowly on the hills . I didn't remember to take my camera ! .
Gotta love that GMC envy!!! that long long motor just purrsss. With the 0psi cap and no water boiling, the gauge has to be wrong, hence why im not to worried about it. just keep an eye on how the truck is runnin. either way im so glad to see others using these trucks as intended!!! Now you guys with the perfect resto's I do love thoses trucks too!! they always look so good, but i like to drive mine and get it dirty Nate you have to bring your camera!!!
Camera Yeah ; Last night I was underneath , removing the fu=iller neck off the 2nd fuel tank , looking at the broken exhaust manifold lying just inside the garte and wishing I'd brought it.... ' ' One of these days for sure .

Still workin!!! Again I get the "You want me to put this in the back of that?!?!" Then I get the "Look it didn't even squat it down!!!" Its too funny. this time I am starting on finishing my basement. Got 225 2x4x8's in the back. Drove like a champ!!! From my rough calcs a 2x4 weighs about 1.21lbs/ft times 8 ft is about 9.7lbs times 225 boards gets me 2183lbs. Try that payload in a new truck And that is nothing compared to the pea gravel I had. Now that load did squat it down.
The suspension isn't squating, but that tire doesn't look happy. I love doing that to people in my truck. Thats what it is for!
Got Wood? If you keep haul'n loads like these, you are going to have to build yourself some sideboards soon....
Ya make me proud, Brian! I just spent w-a-y more time than I had just admiring those pictures! At times I wish I would have been content to leave mine the way it was, but someday I will be doing similar things with mine. Good on ya, Brian! That just looks FANTASTIC!
Thanks Fella's. We were in a hurry to get the stuff that night, and I didn't increase the tire pressure. I need to pump it up, right now its at 35 psi, so it needs to be 45+ for this load. Then it should be happy! Sideboards huh?!?! Can you imagine how much more stuff I can get in there with sideboards. Insert evil laugh here That is exactly what these trucks are for. Heck it is so much smoother driving when i have 2000+lbs in the bed. So it must be happier right. Its just a blast to drive let me tell ya. I sure get a lot of looks when I drive it, but i seem to get a lot more when i drive it fully loaded!!! Paul, i can't wait to see your truck done!! It will look great! And what about the cheifs this year?!?! I got to see them once already and they are playing so good!
Haulin' Is what it was made for after all.... I'd have never done that without airing up the tires first . You'll know when there's too much load in any pickup as it'll sway like a drunken sailor and rear steer if you're not careful...
