    Hi guys,

Not long had my finished truck on the road, fitted with rebuilt SBC 350 and TH350 trans.

Driving it today, noticed a couple of splutters when I gave it a little right foot action and a couple of times the tickover died right down and nearly cut out when slowing down to turn into a junction.

Has 2 fuel filters, one inline before the carb and 1 in the tank. Electronic ignition on top of the dizzy, plenty of fuel in the tank, slight oil leak on the trans at the mo, not sure if its the sump gasket leaking and I dont know whether the trans being low on oil ( if it actually is) will have an effect on the engine cutting out.
Fitted with an Edelbrock 550 cfm carb.

Ive also noticed the lights do not seem to brighten when you rev the engine, might just be me being paranoid.

Any ideas what the first thing I should be trying to look out for, i.e check spark plugs etc. Engine has only done about 140 miles since being rebuilt.

    Any suggestions welcomed

Check to see what kind of manifold vacuum you have with a gauge then check the springs on the metering rods on the carb, you will have to get a spring kit and move up to a hevier spring so that the rods will open sooner to let more fuel in under power. Also check your timing and a/f adjustment.

    Hi James,

I plan I get the engine set up on the rolling road anytime soon so maybe the engineer can do that while its there.

This is the first time it has happened and I have made several journeys before today.

    Just seems a bit odd.

    One Test

Since you mentioned both electronic ignition and dim lights....

Slap a meter on the battery terminals and see what you get ~ must be over 13 VDC above idle .

Other than that , follow Jim's lead , basic tune up checking .

Might be easier if you just changed your name to J I M.

Us old guys have a hard time remembering our own names, much less anyone else's.

Might there be a hesitation in the accellerator pump in the carb? Or am I barking up the wrong tree? Tim from Jamestown... Look, I did it! We used to have a lot of problems with this on the old Quadrajet carbs. Also found a lot of the secondary butterfly springs set too loosely, and the rear would open too early, causing a 'dead' spot.
