Anpther oil pressure?

ok we fired up the sons 1951 today.He was planning a maiden voyage out on to the road. Well we fired it up and listened to it run a bit then he backed her out of the garage.. Only to notice a huge puddle of oil and more still a flowing. darned steel brake line had cracked right above the engine fitting. We got the old line punched back up through the funky oddball fitting and cleaned it out and made a clean cut on the old line and put it all back together. It is weeping just a bit. Ok My question is on the gage, is the fitting on the back an oddball too? Or can I just get an 1/8 inch replacement kit and swap it out to a copper setup?Or do I need to look for that same fitting that does not use a ferrell? Thanks
 
Sweet deal. Thanks chebby. I will have him pick up a new repair kit. That steel line makes me rather nervous, 50 years old and all.
 
Oil Gauge Piping

The _only_ reason it lasted 50 years is because it was steel ~ copper pipes will always fatigue and crack after a few years .

IIRC it's 3/16" ~ I got some stainless steel piping from my brake parts jobber & used that with the original fittings on my '49 years ago .

How did the test drive go ? .

The drive lasted about 50 feet.. that is where I got him stopped after I noticed she was a pissing oil out. And nope it is 1/8 inch. I used an 1/8" bit to clean the brass fitting out so I could reshove the steel line back through it.
 
just stick with it. Its so exciting to finally take them out for a drive. Then once you do it takes several trips of problem free driving to settle you in. but after that its just a blast!!!
 
His second attempt at a road trip only made it a few feet further.. Still not to the road yet..
