1950 Panel truck body work, pitting around windshield glass

Need a little help.
Drivers side lower outside corner has a few good size holes around the seal with about 4" of the lip thinned out by rust. Any suggestions on repairs?

The best and only way in my opinion to fix this is to cut out all of the bad area and make a patch and weld it in.
