motor work scares me, so dad helps me. so does wiring. but the wiring on these trucks seems easy. once i get the truck goin and have tags and such ill buy the wiring harness from out host and swap it to 12volt.
ol'chebby, your techs are awesome and make everything easier. on here and the hamb. gonna be doin the 88-98 bench seat mod, dont know if you wrote it up or chubby but.... yea it was chubs i think
i dont know why but i want to go get this thing. but i dont really need or have 1500 bucks but http://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/cto/3947311165.html
BTW, I was browsing Google Images the other day to find some paint ideas, and I ran across another picture of "your girl". Picture was on some Brazilian rat rod blog. But I dont think you need to be able to read the language to appreciate the link. http://ratrodbrasil.blogspot.com/2012/09/rat-rod-girls.html
i know, well he went to look at a older c10 the other day. i have noooo idea why but he did say "its got a stock 4 link it the back, we could bag it easily" i think my dad has turned a corner. o0o0oohhh weeeeeeeeeee
well after 2 months inside to replace the cam and workin on it 4 days a week with a couple set backs, the truck was pulled outside. guess i had a good day. put the 2nd oil pan gasket on last week (knock on wood) no oil leaks. secret was to RGB the front and rear of the gasket on. let it dry and get the motor mount out of the way. used chubby's write up for the 88-98 chevy bench seat install. i did it a lil differnt but it works well and im diggin it. no more sittin on a bucket http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=8240340#post8240340 also got my visor off ebay on the truck. its a re-pop and needs some tweekin to make it fit and look right. next i guess is to put the front back together and re-wire to 12v. can i use the floor starter to start the truck when its 12v or should i use a solenoid to a key or push start button?
if i buy the alt wire kit thru our vendor and snag an altanator and brackets. what else do i need to convert over? the inline gas gauge thing and bulbs. what else? http://www.classicparts.com/1947-49-Wiring-Harness-Alternator/productinfo/52-022/#.UhMaGGnn_IU
That wire kit looks to rewire the truck, but still use the 2 fuse stock block. If yo are going to rewire the truck, I would use a complete wiring kit with a modern fuse block. I have used several EZWire kits with great success. If your wiring is in decent shape...(most are not) and you are just adding an alternator, you can use the generator wire to the alternator ( 1 wire style) and move the generator wire to the Batt. terminal on the regulator, then do away with the field wire. With a non 1 wire alt., you would need to add an exciter wire to the alternator from a switched source.
Basic Up Grades The pedal starter works fine and helps prevent random kiddies from stealing your truck . I'd retain it as it'll work terrific with 12 volts through the old 6 volt starter . If you use a '49 wiring loom and fuse box , you'll have all the fuses you'll ever need . the stock '49 loom is about $150 . Reducing the fuses to two in '51 (?) was a bad cost cutting move my GM IMO .
Its looking good! I like that seat in there, spaces for seat belts. Did you pick that up from the yard (M&R)?
thanks chebby. my wiring in the truck isnt lookin good. the clothe is fallin off and isnt lookin go0d at all. the truck has a bit of a hard time startin with the 6volt and generator. yea i did. walked around till i found one that wasnt ripped apart. the one i got isnt perfect but it isnt ripped apart. ill put a cover or mexican blackets on it. i like your idea vwnate
