Oh yeah! I went to a car show with my Daughter the weekend before Thanksgiving. Walked away with "Best Of Show!" Neat award too. It's CAD cut with a plasma cutter.
The discoloration, I believe, is because when I last assembled the trunnion, I lined generously with mystic red grease. No pictures of the cleaned up parts, but they cleaned completely back to polished silver metal. Pics are a little misleading.
I did that after having this issue. I did find the problem before any damage was done. I was able to just burnish the surfaces of the trunnion bearing, lubricate, and reinstall.
Mine is Yukon Yellow. It has a slight 'creamy' touch that softens the yellow a bit. BTW Nate, have you read my thread about u-joint issue? Seems like you might be able to add some info there. Namely, do you know how much gear oil was put in the ball socket at the factory?

Any chance the engine set in rain while at body shop. Water maybe seeped in around threads and then weeped out when heated up? I'd maybe blow out the screw holes, replace screws with a dab of grease, and warm up the engine again?
