Broken Valve Spring: Small Block Chevrolet V8

The 350 SBC in my ole Hot Rod Model A broke a #4 intake valve spring. I replaced it today and was pleased to discover that the valve wasn't bent.

Cam:

Intake: 488 lift, 234 duration
Exhaust: 510 lift, 244 duration​

10.25 : 1 Compression

Any engine guru's here? Wondering if I was just lucky that it didn't bend a valve, or is this S.O.P.?
