New to AD trucks and the forum and could use some help. Have recently purchased a '49 five window 3100 which has had the engine changed. Was told it was a 235 replacing a 216. Just trying to identify the current engine. Block casting # 3769716 , the head # is 3836848, the stamping on the flat by the distributor is FC 409J. The valve cover is held on by two nuts. Any information will be appreciated.
Numbers I also found the block casting number from some listings at the old car manual project. Block 3769716 is listed as a 60-61 and the Head; 3836848 is used on 53-55 corvette 235 and another listing shows 53-62 passenger and all corvette. The engine code I can partially identify the F is for Plant (Flint) and the end "J" is an application code which is for a standard 235 Thriftmaster. If the C is really an "O" or "0" then that is a date code 04 (month= April) and 09 is (day=9th). The valve cover has probably been changed or they used the original 216 valve cover and used a valve cover adapter kit which is two studs to replace bolts in the rocker arm shaft and the nuts for the hold down on top. Hope this helps.
