Yep thats the way to go. Old Chebby I have the same combination as the stickers have the matching colors. IT looks pretty darn good.
Just found this cool website with some interesting reading (and pictures) about the evolution of AC oil filters. Enjoy! http://ddautoparts.home.mindspring.com/oilfilter.htm Ken
OMG!! Ouch!! All right you two....that really hurts my eyes!! Go with the Ac blue and orange on the gray! My body guy painted mine the body color purplish/black, with the gold decals it looks sweet! Also available from sponsor.
Unless he has changed the formula it is way to light in color should be a dark blu grey not they light grey that he used to sell but it's been a while since I check his paint out so he could have changed his formula after a buch of people told him it was the wrong color
Russ, look at this website. http://ddautoparts.home.mindspring.com/oilfilter.htm Fram has been orange/black since day one.
I had never noticed the blue body/ orange top before. I have seen the orange body Fram, and several have had a blue top. Through the years, who knows what has been swapped/ painted. That is a cool page, never seen it before.
So does that mean.... I need to go to an orange body with a blue cap or a blue body with an orange cap to be accurate to what would have been put on when the truck was new??? Also, where do I find the right color matches to those colors??? I thought the yellow would be pretty easy because I could just get the stickers and have a paint store do a color match to the stickers but now I need more help.....
The AC color codes ! Some information here ! http://www.trifive.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36868 http://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=425628&page=1 I need to go to an orange body with a blue cap or a blue body with an orange cap to be accurate to what would have been put on when the truck was new??? This has turned into a fun and educational thread. Let me muddle the water a little. I read somewhere a couple years ago, that if you ordered a vehicle with the RPO oil filter canister, it came from the factory painted solid black with no purdy decals or anything. If you had the dealership install one, you got the yellow/black AC or later the blue/orange AC. Steve, we've had a saying on this forum for years. Simply put it goes as follows: You're paying the bills so you get to do it anyway YOU want to. If you like the yellow/black canister, go for it. If you like the blue/orange, do it. There is no right or wrong. These trucks used and abused for years, and no one ever stopped somebody and threatened to call the oil filter police because it wasn't painted the right color. Just have fun! Ken
So right! Since these were usually dealer or aftermarket....I would not think that there is a correct color....I might have driven my truck a few years and then a owner added it.
By Pass Oil Filters You should measure the height of the old oily cartridge as there's a 5" or 7" one IIRC , your local NAPA store can get either one cheaply . The color difference by when and where it was installed , is correct . Don't let negative boobs spoil your fun ~ choose the color scheme you prefer and adjust your story accordingly when folks ask .
Well I know you guys like pictures.... So here are the pics of the actual filter and all of the parts that I have for it. A couple of questions: 1. The stem coming up in the middle of the filter only appears to have one small pin hole. Is that is all there is supposed to be? It doesn't seem like that's big enough to push the oil through. 2. The hole coming in on the side is stamped "INLET" so it is pretty clear which hose goes where. The thing I am confused on is on the underside of the lid there is no gasket or anything to keep the oil from flowing out the top once the top nut is screwed down. Is there supposed to be some sort of gasket that goes on the underside of the lid? If so, where can I find that gasket? 3. The screw that goes into the top of the lid and screws into the stem. Does that need a gasket as well? It would seem so to prevent leakage. If so, does anyone know where I can get that gasket? 4. I have the spring which I assume goes into the bottom of the filter. Does the filter just sit on top of that? Also does anyone know which filter it is that I need based on the outside measurement of the canister? 5. And finally, is there anything else I need to buy (other than stickers, paint, brackets to mount it to the manifold, and the hoses) in order to complete the assembly? Just want to see if there are anymore parts I need to buy. After all the discussion I think I am going to go to the black/yellow combination. Thanks for everyone's feedback. Any answers to the above questions would also be greatly appreciated.
Steve, you'll need the 5" filter element. NAPA p/n 1100. Wix p/n 51100. The element comes w/ gasket. If memory serves, I've got a fiber gasket on the top nut/screw which can be found at any good hardware store or auto parts house. Ken
Don't fret too much the big O-Ring for the top as it usually comes with the new filter...I always save'em when I change.
Nice atractive machinery Zig. Red color atracks peoples eyes ,one reason firetrucks are colored red. I love it.Thanks fore sharing Zig.
