    I would recomend that you unhook the wires while you test the unit.

    Have you tested the sending unit itself. The float in the down position should read 0 ohms and all the way up it should read 30 ohms.

    will a 55-56 grill fit a 57?

    It is possible to use the 55-56 grill in the 57 you will have to reuse the 4 outer grill pieces on the 57. I'm not sure what other modifications...

    On the 57 rims there are no left and right they are universal. Can you post a picture of it installed so I can see the spacing.
