I have a 77 Nova rear in my 53. Same deal,springs need to be turned around.
Aren't the valve covers also different? The 216 would have bolts through the top of the valve cover,235 bolts around the perimeter.
Have you tried mounting these fenders and hood on your 1/2 ton? I don't think they are going to work on your frame either!

The 4100 is a 2 ton truck. As far as I know the fenders,hood and grille will not interchange with the 1/2 ton .
