16" wheel questions

I am presently running the 16" wheels with split rims. (boo!!) 8 lug. 3/4 ton. Original tires as far as I can surmise @ 31" tall. '66 stock drivetrain. I would like to go to some 15" rims but I am concerned about drum clearance and all that jazz. 15" tires are less expensive and are easier to shop for width etc. (I live in the "high" desert and with 2 wheel drive I still want to be able to run the sand hills from time to time.) I would like to run some M/T 33 x 13.5 x 15.
any help out there? thanks in advance!

The only problem with 15" rims is if you ever convert to disc brakes you might have to change to larger rims.

why switch to 15"s?

why not just buy some regular 16"s ?

if you are going to buy new nicer/wider rims why not just get some better 16s or the h2 17"s. they have 35 bfg a/t's are are easy to get when the retards swap 26"s on their h2's.


15"s are hard to get in 8 lug that arent just the crappy stamped steel wheels.

Steel wheels so that if I hit a rock hard enough to dent the wheel, I can bend it back out. Aluminum will break. My '66 aint no street truck or show girl. She gits out there and works.

15" are easier to shop for tires for. I want to stay as close to 31" high as I can. (this is whats on the truck now) AND get them around 10" wide. (or wider) Found out today that the tire boys won't put 4 ply on 3/4 ton truck, has to be 6 ply or better. Looks like I will be going with 16" wheels but I want them 8" wide. min. Factory wheels are 6.5 wide. Stockton wants $135.00 per for raw wheels. Crap, I aint made out of money here!!!

To bad you dont live closer to me, theres an all american "junk" yard in vancouver washington (70 miles one way from my home) that has mountains of steel wheels like your looking for. Ive climed these mountains several times thru the years and theres several 15" and 16" steels in 5 and 6 lug chevy patterns, some that are 7" and 8" wide. $15 a wheel.

split rim options original on 1966 chevy custom camper 3/4?

just found a jewel in the dessert , very stock, complete. only bad part are the ford wheels and hub caps. a friend said its like a guy wearing women's shoes!
so what are the thoughts out there?can you get the original look without split rims in aftermarket wheels and caps?. where can i buy them?
