Not much progress. I got the axle bolted up, along with my disc brake bracket bolted up on the passenger side and that is it. Running to the junk yard shortly to ditch my old stuff and hopefully find some temp 15", 5 on 4-3/4" rims to use.
Little more progress tonight. I had to change out the races in the hubs. They stockers came out easy with a punch and hammer. I hit the hubs with a torch and left the new races in the freezer for a couple hours. Went together perfect!! Next came packing bearings and assembly!! I could not install the nut and cotter pin. I need to install a couple thick washers so the hole in the spindle aligns with the nut. Money shot......Henry at ride height with 28" wheels!!
Looks great. The curiosity is killing the cat here, did you have problems with clearance regarding the steering bump stops like I did? Damon
Love it! I'm partial to the red. Red, white and blue that way~ That sure is an inexpensive way to decide, no?
I'm curious. Are those GMC front fenders? I know the Chevys have turn signals in the grille, and my GMC has them in the front fenders. Oh, and any reason to upload a couple of pictures of "Clarabelle".
Ya know, Bilbo~ I wasn't going to mention the manly fenders on a (Chevy), but now that you said something... BTW, NICE JOB of lining up the paint lines!!! NICE!!! Are you ready to drive that GMC?? Wheels, tires, and away you go! Great work, young man!
Somebody added the blinkers at some point.....they are wired really sloppy with loose multi colored wire. Trying top decide if I keep them or plug the holes. Nice truck BTW.
I'd say remove them. It's "conflicting" to have GMC turn signals on a Chevy truck. Just my two cents... Can't wait to see your truck setting on its own tires. It will be interesting to see how low it goes. (And you're putting the axle on top of the springs, right?)
Down 5-1/2" in front........and axle flip in the back. Hope to have the running boards level with ground.
Zig, Who you callin' Young Man? Thanks. She's been around the block a few times recently, for 'check out' purposes.... No seat in yet, (Did the 'bucket' seat). Got the seat belts in yesterday, though, and ready for headliner, windshield trim, and seat upholstery. Red pinstripes at the paint line. Cab will then be done. Bed work to follow. Meanwhile, will be shopping for wheels and tires. Coach, I forgot to tell you how good your truck is gonna' look with all the lowering. Good work. As these Guys probably know, I'm not a real stickler for 'original', so I'd use the park lights in the grille, and make turn signals in the fenders... Just me.
The red pinstripe will make that really pop! I just thought if coach left those on, we already have brit50 with the same kind of lights~ you never know, the next photo we'll be getting is Charles showing his new "turn signal" lights... All in an attempt to have the manly GMC look going on.
Great progress and work, thanks for sharing the photos, lights look great if the wiring can be protected keep them.
To do a rear axle flip on a 3600 you will have to do a 'C' notch on the frame. Just removing the rubber stop would not be enough travel room - would it?
I have already put a complete 3100 front sit up under my 3600 - I know pictures - I have removed rear springs, down to 4 leafs, using a early Chevelle rear end. Going to leave it under the springs for now. Thanks for sheering your build! Not many 3600's being done out there
By the way, WELCOME lb+1! So you know we need pictures~ we're waiting. I, too, have the mighty 3/4 ton with the 1/2 ton frontage. I'm going with 6 lug for some stupid reason. Maybe I hate to scoff at the fact that engineers felt a rig as heavy as ours needed 8 lugs instead of 5, but that's just me... I will stick with the axle under the springs as well. Mine will be used as a truck, but probably not to the extent that Wolf uses his. Anyway, WELCOME, and post some pictures of your baby soon, okay?
I sure how you are not implying a lowered truck can not be used as a "truck"......LOL. Anyway......you will have to be patient....I am awaiting some 6 degree castor shims before final assembly!!
