Tires Those really do look very nice but , this old rig is a TRUCK , meaning it's heavy and side loads the tires heavily , I hope the next time you pony up for some LT tires , I keep seeing wrecked old trucks due to this simple error .
Hows the quality on the white walls. In your first pic the tire on the right looks like a black line is in the white on the top right. They look great in the wheel well. Was the price better than Diamondback and Coker?
The black line is just a rub mark from shipping. Quality is great, and I am pretty picky. To be honest I have read enough bad about Cokers, they were not even considered. They were about $35-$45 cheaper per tire compared to Diamondback. Delivery time was much quicker as well. Cody at Hurst was awesome to talk to, and came highly recommended from anybody that had dealt with them. I will definately use them again in the future.
After some carb cleaner and some fire (on the backside of the tire) the rears seated easily. Bolted them on and am ready to rock and roll. First impression......wow they look awesome. Second impression....damn they look tall. 28" with 40 PSI in them......about 1" taller than advertised. Love the look though. Still waiting on my Shannon cones. Measurements show I will need some wheel spacers to clear the box sides. Probably 2" to fill up the wheel well as much as possible.
I'm so envious. You're making fantastic progress in a short amount of time, and the results are outstanding. Love the photo updates and the "posed" shots, as always. Time for me to get back to work on the Sinclair Chevy. Damon
Sweet Amazing how wide whites can change the looks of a truck and your truck looks sweet what brand and size are they. Robert
Thanks for the kind words Damon. My main goal was to get Henry to be a functional driver by spring (April- May), knowing that there will also be small stuff to finish. With this in mind I have been pushing the budget and available time pretty hard. More than once I have asked myself what the hell did I get myself into. Getting the front and rear end buttoned up and the rims and tires on is a major milestone!!
I got them from http://www.hurstracingtires.com/ They are Hancook tires. 215/75-15 fronts and 235/75-15 on the rear
WWW Tires Sweet ! . I too am seriously envious of your photographic abilities , I know my old truck would look terrific if only I knew how to take pictures . I'm sure you know to keep those white walls clean with Welsey's Bleech White or plain old Bon-Ami , Comet Powdered Cleanser etc. ~ any rubber treatment will draw the black right through the white walls and make them yellow... You're soon to be driving your classic rig in the Summer Sun ! keep up the good works and great photos ! .
We had a pretty good shot of snow yesterday and last night.....combined with 40mph winds today. School cancelled, but my wife had to work. Snow day for kids.....shop day for dad!! In between some other tasks and moving snow I got some stuff done today!! Got my pinion set and burnt in the spring seats. After that I bolted the Blazer sway bar on the rear end and shortened up the vertical mounts to use it on Henry. Fits perfect!! I then spent about an hour boxing the spring mounts I made. The UPS man.....and Mail Lady have been making alot of delivery's to the household lately!! My wheel spacers showed up. And I got a special package from Wood1........tail lights and a center steering wheel cap!! Up next: * Box frame * Fab cross member for upper shock mount * Fab lower shock mounts and install shocks * Fab upper front shock mounts
That is looking SO slick, Mike! Snow days~ what are ya gonna do? Might as well weld some stuff up, huh? I am so sick of winter. We should get a beautiful day tomorrow, and then highs are only to be in the mid to lower 40s through Sunday. Ugh! Snow is forecast for Sunday, so who knows~ Snow day Monday for us???
It worked out pretty good. My wife was able to get the little guy (Colton age 10 months) to daycare, and my 8 year old son and 11 year old daughter just kinda did their own thing. Perfect day for dad!! I hear ya.....winter is wearing on me for sure. The only good thing is if it was nice out....I would be itching to drive this thing!!
Spent a little quality time with Henry last night. I modified the Blazer lower shock mounts to accept the shocks I wanted to run. Before: After: Everything bolted up the way I had hoped, but I am running into a bit of a snag. The shocks I have are for a mid 60's C-10. Collapsed length is 12.56" I am going to have to lean these babies over about 40 degree's to get that length to work. So do I lean them over....or try to find a shock with the same mounts that is a 2-3 inches shorter?
You can also mount that shock bar above the frame, there is some space between the bottom of the bed and the frame. I have seen factory shocks mounted at quite an angle, they should work, maybe not quite as effectively, but functional none the less. You my also consider lowering the lower shock mount at the spring plate.......
I was going to try and figure out my bed height above the frame and use that as an option. Lowering the lower spring mount may work......but I will only gain an inch. Maybe worth it though. Currently I am leaning towards bolting them up as is and seeing how it works
I did not knock anything off my honey do list......but I made good progress with Henry!! First line of business....cross member and shock mounts. I threw caution to the wind and leaned the shocks I had over. I never did get a chance to cut my frame boxing plates at work wiht the plasma cutter, so plan B was in order. Jig saw and 24T blades. Easy peazy!! I blade per side is all it took. Not ideal, but it worked!! Tacked in and read to start welding. Not proud of the some of the welds.....but they are strong. Hopefully they will never see the light of day again!! I got my new center caps and bullet lug nuts installed on one wheel as well!!
Mike, what the heck is up with your centers? Is that a chrome collar or what? It really reflects the lug nuts nicely! Yes, I'm getting ideas!
