1970 Chev C10 350 Carb

The smallest would be a two barrel.

Smallest 4 barrel? I would say a 650cfm would be as small as I would go.

i agree with dv that that smallest carb would be a 2 barrel. but i for a four barrel you could go as low as a 500 cfm from edelbrock or other carb manufactures, but i would go with a 600cfm is the lowest i would go.

:) howziit guys!

using the calculator at www.smokemup.com

at 85% volumetric efficiency and 70*F, a sbc 355 would need 392cfm to sustain 4500rpm.

480cfm at 5500rpm, and

600cfm at 6875rpm.

FWIW, a big block 454 needs 502cfm at 4500rpm, and

600cfm at 5375rpm.

BTW, THE PINK LADY had a 750cfm #####.

for gas mileage testing, i replaced the carb with a 600cfm Edelbrock...jetted TWO STEPS LEAN, in power and cruise mode.

still testing; low-end response is EXCELLENT, but i can FEEL the midrange/high-end power loss.

the spark-plugs read brown...and Noooo, this 454 engine hasn't burned out yet.

water temp range is 185*-200*F, runs on 87Octane, no pings, no dieseling...but it is a LAZY RAT ENGINE.}> }> }>
