I bought a 64 gmc truck because i love older style trucks but the engine is an inline 6 but the inside of the truck on the driver side there is a metal tag from GMC that says it is a 305E and so much torque and rpm, but i cant find existence of a 305E inline six? was the motor swapped or is this not a 64? any info would be helpful because this thing is getting expensive and i sont even know exactly what it is, thanks.

Sounds like the engine was swapped. The 305 was a v6, it was big and heavy, lacked power and drank a lot of gas. It's proper use would have been as a boat anchor...Big Tim:cool:

Earlier GMC inline six cylinder engines had the engine serial number stamped as shown here:
http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/gmc/5559mm/5559mm0i05.html
The first three digits of these older engines serial numbers were the size of the engine such as 302, 270, etc. There could be an alphabetic prefix (A through G) that signified slight over sized pistons and/or undercut main or rod journals on the crank from the factory.

not a 305

i have a 305e V6 and as far as i know there was never a inline 305 made so i would say it was swaped get the numbers off the block and run them to find out what it really is cuz its deffinately not a 305 bud..... also i am loooking for a 1bbl carb for my 305 V6 anyone know were to find one?

I remember working on these back in the day and I thought they were all 2BBL carbys...

In any case . Rock Auto .com will have the stock one .

no luck

sadly i have checked there and they do not have a single barrel holley carb wich came on my 63 305 V6 :(

We have the single-barrel carburetor you are seeking, that was factory-correct on the 305 V6. It is a Stromberg.

Also, the '60-'66 GMC trucks were equipped with straigh sixes or a generation of the 305...A, B, C, D or E.
