'54 Chevy shifting problem

I have a problem getting my '54 Chevy pickup to shift from low to second. Most of the time when I try to move the shift lever from low to second the linkage locks up and stays in low until I go under the hood and align the linkage by hand to get back to neutral. Any opinions out there? Thanks

Sounds like linkage bushings are shot. You can try to replace them or the other option is to convert it to a floor shifter.
