56 chevy tranny conversion

I want to make my 1956 chevy pickup an automatic. It currently is a four on the floor, and I was wondering if anyone has done this, or has any ideas.....I want to keep the stick on the floor, but have questions on whether or not linkage would have to be radically altered. I appreciate the help.

Lokkar makes a floor mounted shifter for automatics. Nice billit alluminum pieces only, so kinda spendy but not to bad.

Lokar makes really nice shifters.Easy to install and they work really well.The price does show quality,but its not bad for what you get.

Hey there.. I have a 1955 chevy truck. I just recently droped a 350 V8, TH350 tranny in my truck. I got a B&M Zgate shifter for the floor where the original shifter was. It now uses a cable instead of steel rod linkage like most automatics. This worked out perfectly. You should have no problem putting in an automatic tranny, TH Series with a b&m zgate shifter. Now the zgate is a shorter stick with saftey T handles. You can buy a longer stick for trucks. I got the zgate becuase I dont have much room. I built a console to fit under the dash to hold a CB, and a cd player. This only took 4 holes.. 2 in the firewall and 2 in the bottom of the dash that were used for the vent controls.
