you might try a suburban or blazer tanks.

I was thinking of something like that for my truck a few months back, but I'm not sure if it's possible.

Suburbans and Blazers have gas tanks located in the back between the frame like you want, but the gas tank door on Burbs/Blazers is on the back corner. Would a longer filler hose work/be safe?

RE: 75 gas tank (dont want to blow

Colemans Military surplus has 25 gal Blazer gas tanks for $25.
I'm going to put on on my 56. It will fit no problem , I just have to move 1 crossmember to the very rear of the frame. The tanh looks great, no rust on the inside, only a little surface rust on the outside that came off with a little sanding. These are brand new so I think I will seal mine before it permently installed.
Check out www.colemansmilitary.com for a pic.

RE: 75 gas tank (dont want to blow

After a recall on these trucks, a non-metallic "skid-plate" was installed on the bottom of the tanks. I have saddle tanks, both have the skids. It is some tough stuff. This prevents the tank from comming in contact with steel, asphalt, ect. in a collision. They are safe, keep the tank. You have a greater chance of being struck by lightning while in the truck on a sunny day.

Actually, Ive heard of a few reports of side impact collisions which resulted in the saddle tank either exploding or at least the fuel igniting. The skid plate isnt meant to withstand a car traveling 30mph. Its only meant to protect the tank from rocks or other debris that gets kicked up by the wheels.
