Hi, I'm new to the fourm. I'm a teenaged kid who just bought his first truck, a 78 blazer, its in excellent condition, and its almost all stock. I'm looking do add a better audio system and make it a little more powerful under the hood. I'm looking for easy things, that i can do with a basic set of tools, and if anyone has any advice on either of those topics I would love a kick in the right direction, I'm kind of lost in all the different websites and products and whatnot.

Hello 78 blazer, I have a 76 blazer with the following basic setup, I would start with maybe changing out the manifold to a dual plane manifold.. Performer is a nice choice..
then throw on an e d e l b r o c k carb, upgrade your HEI to a better high perfromance coil at leat 50,000 volt.. see Pertronix, or ACCEL or Mallory igntion...
good plugs.. I run splitfires they are nice..
throw on a dual exhaust with at least 2" pipes.. Headers will boost your torque.

I would start with that assuming that the engine is in fair condition to start with plus they are easy bolt-ons. See if this is ok before you go with anything else like head/cam changes.
another option is to buy a goodwrench 350 and add all these items to it.. that is what I did and with 3:73 gears and 31 " tires, it will light them up everytime...

take your time, and plan it out, remember you have a truck that weighs around 6500 lbs.. at least that is what mine weighs. you need torque more then high a high horsepower engine.

thanks, I'll look into the above, the bolt ons. it gives me a good place to start. I dont know much but i have help, so hopefuly it'll turn out good.
 
ya did good!!! that is a nice looking rig... The above mentioned mods will be perfect, I would lift it and put some bigger tires on it but that is just me!!! I love wheelin!!
 
its a 4*4, the pic is now a little out of date, i have 31 inch bfgoodriches on it now, some simple wheels, but not stock, and i took the runningboards off.
 
that sounds great! I wanted to say something about the running boards but did not know if you liked them or not, I think they look funny on all trucks, don't like them at all and the fact that they lower your all around ground and side to side clearance sucks! like I said I like to go wheelin so those things matter to me.

Very nice, I dont do much wheelin, but i race a little, haul boats, and occasionaly get myself in places i shouldnt, so the 4 wheel drive comes in handy. As soon as i get access to a camera, I'l get some updated pics going on. I dont know if i mentioned on this fourm that my truck got keyed. And sugar in the gas tank. but its all good.. the responsible party got arrested.
 
Glad the dude that did that got caught!!! did your insuranse company cover the expense of fixing it?
 
78blazer, here is a little more advise your rig looks like someone took care of it and kept a lot of the stock stuff on it, when and if you go to upgrade things on your blazer, don't just pitch the original parts. Post them on craigslist.com, or ebay these original parts are getting hard to come by and restores mouths drool when they see parts such as original hup caps, guages, doors, dashes, and other random parts that usally don't get much thought. I have had two blazers as you were I have had three two 76's and one 78 and I loved them! it the truck I drove all through high school! I miss mine so much I'm in the market again for one. good luck with it and remember take your time with it no rush do thing the right way once, instead of the wrong way mulitple times! ooohh god I sound like my dad!
