Hello All!,

This is my first post. I am currently work on my first AD. She's a 1949 3100. Anyways ive finished converting it over to 12 volts and my 12 volt generator is shot. Has anyone had any issues with the pulley fitment when switching to an alternator? I read that someone on stovebolt had an issue with the pulley not being the same as the generator.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

So nobody has ran into this issue? I'm wanting to run a 1 wire and not looking to change pulleys or belt

Seriously~ Normally we won't answer questions unless you show us a picture (or way more) of your truck.
So just this one time, I will tell you that I pulled the pulley off my old 6 volt generator and put it on the alternator that I got. Yes, you will need to change the mounting brackets.

PS, we may be slow to respond, so if you see people are looking at your post but no one is answering, don't take it personal. We will, it just may take some time. ;)

Welcome aboard.

Welcome aboard, enjoy the ride while here. The alt. requires another bracket unless you make your own. Our Host has them. BTW, Have any photos f this ride of yours??

Charles

Yeah she's been off the road for 30 years and I got her running again last week. Need to finish up alittle wiring on the inside of cab and brake lights, install alternator, new wheels and tires, brakes and exhaust and she'll be road ready. The radio even has power but speaker may be blown

Newbie !

WELCOME PAUL ! .

That's a nice looking rig you have there , I hope you keep the grille guard .

DON'T put 12 volts power to that radio ! you'll destroy it .

Oh yeah the grille guard is my favorite part of the truck! ;) I'm gonna clip that wire to the radio and maybe put a voltage reducer on it. I'm going to install a aftermarket head unit under the dash though. Thanks for the kind words and advice!

Hey !

Is that a Brand 'F' Carter carby ?! .

If you're going to use a Carter , at least get the correct YF one ! .

No it's a zenith and was on it when I bought it... I've only had this truck two weeks. Cleaned the carb up and it's working good. .. but this will replace that setup shortly after I get her road worthy.

What amperage should I be looking for in a 1 wire alternator? What brand is everybody else using?

Alternator Choices

Most folks go for wayyyy over kill , all you really need is 65 amperes if you're going to run AC and a killer stereo .

If it's just a truck and engine , any old Delcotron SI typ will do plus they're cheap and on the shelf anywhere in America when you're traveling .
