    Mariner Blue

    Robert -

This link will give you the Mariner Blue detail.. It's from '57 but it's the same thing. http://www.tcpglobal.com/aclchip.aspx?image=1957-chevrolettruck-pg01.jpg

My 55 was originally Mariner Blue but has had several coats of all kinds of other colors. Right now it's all coming off (1 front fender and hood left to do) and then going back to Mariner Blue. Getting the paint off's been a real chore, so getting to see these excellent picture of what I hope it's going to finish up like, are just what I need to keep me going. Thanks guys.

My 54 was originally mariner blue(or whatever you want to call it) Of course nobody at the paint store had original paint codes that far back. I used the med. blue from mid 70's chevy trucks(2188 med blue '77 chevy truck) It was a pretty close match to the original. The white is Ford Wimpelton white, an off white. Looks great next to the blue. Wishing I had taken more pics of my truck before I sold it. It was a 2-1/2 year ground up resto. Chris

Understood. I took the original paint codes to the paint store only to have them pretty much laugh at me. We found an old 54 paint chip book that wasn't all worn and compared the chip to a hidden area on my firewall that had not seen daylight and had the original color. It was pretty much right on so I had them scan the chip as well as the two blue colors on the interior and formulate them to a modern base coat clear coat system. I have the paint formulas for those three colors. I will have to cross the white bridge when I get there. I have not had them mixed yet as paint is in the near future but not right now. I was warned that the scanner seemed to register colors to where they were mixed a hint darker when they were done but that will be fine with me. I enjoyed the pics of your truck also. It sure reminds me of when mine had nicer looking paint. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, I did notice that on the 57 colors they called it marine blue but it still looked like that real dark navy blue to me.

I painted my '50 Mariner Blue. Went into a auto paint store and they looked it up on their computer. The counter person was surprised to find it by application and said it was available from almost all of their suppliers. Mixed it up and I was on my way.

Here are photos of finished paint:
