Has anybody seen the new Art Morrison GT complete chassis for 47-53 Chevy trucks? VERY COOL! (very expensive). They posted a video of the truck in action. They claim this 63 year old Chevy will handle like a corvette. Couple that with a LS 3 or a (better yet) LS 7, and what a ultra thrill ride you would have!!!
P.S. I apologize in advance to the restoration purists on this forum.

Looks like a really good time and sweat saver for the Hot Rodders .
 
Thanks for the welcome, I'm finally trying to get time to re-do my old 50 Chevy again after all these years. Bought it in 1975- I was 15 years old. Gave 175 dollars and drove it home. I've got it striped down to cab and frame and just finished bracing the cab so I can weld a complete floor pan and kick panels in. Funny, all the parts availiable now. It was junkyards and swap-meets only in the 1970's. I drove this old truck to high school and pulled the homecoming parade float junior and senior year. These old trucks were eye-catchers even then! Then came marriage, kids,... you know. Truck has been stored inside since about 1985. Still has a '57 235 six but I updated the rest of the drivetrain way back then. I ALWAYS liked hot-rods and Dad always liked pure restoration, so the comments here kinda make me laugh, me bein' the black-sheep all those years ago.

P.S. If I had the budget, I would already have an order in at Art Morrison!

Steve as you start to update to hot rod or other stuff please dont toss stock parts we are always looking for stock parts here.

Great Craftmanship.

Art Morrisson chassis are great craftmanship Lakeroadster.

I dont think the price ticket fore these chassis are high really as everything is done with high quality products.Knowing the dollar is low rated today and vendors have to make there living. The welding seams are looking great and oppertunetees are many when you want to build "your spesial " truck with both the standard and the sports frame verisons.

I loved the 50 truck video and the howling sound of the engine performance.

Thanks again and I would not dream of tossing old parts. My father-in-law is a real avid street rod guy and built a '48 Chevy pickup about 9years ago. When he finished the truck, he had a pickup load of spare parts. He called me one Sunday afternoon and said if I didn't want those parts, he was going to throw them in the dumpster! I jumped in my truck and FLEW over to his house to get them!

Thanks for the welcome, I could go on and on about adventures in my old Chevy. Real quick one- coming home from drive-in movie, trying to make dates curfew, internal u-joint flies apart. All the parts were inside that bell at the back of the trans., and I had tools so it got fixed alongside the road. she did not make curfew. Her dad was waiting.

I was 15 in 75 also. I <had> a 1950 Chevy 3 window. It was my "first". Never been the same until a few years ago I ended up with my 5 window GMC. I'm much better now~
Great story! If a young man comes home with grease on his hands, he might be safe. ...might... Of course, I might ask him to repeat the performance for me, just to make sure he isn't blowin' smoke. :cool:

No, have not even got to the frame yet. Working on cab repair. I'm considering what I want to do to the frame because thats next. I don't have the budget for a $16000 frame. However, they also sell the susp. kits to alter orig. frame. They are also pricey, but include rear housing (Ford 9") built to your width spec. Also, remember, our host sells kits, I believe are made by Heidts, which are very similar.
The Art Morrison susp "kit" will not get you the super performance Corvette handling, I don't believe, only a complete frame from them will achieve that. The trucks bed floor must be raised up about 2" and the bed must be mini-tubbed to accomodate the frame "kick-up" for a super low ride height. My goals right now are to keep as much of the truck as is except for a good highway ride and MORE POWER. Nothing about the current drivetrain is original anyway(except the engine which is original to me but not the truck). Then again, if I could swing the whole deal, my orig. frame could be sold to someone I suppose.

Thanks. I'm glad I kept the old truck all these years. I've had plenty of people want to buy it and I was that guy who always said "NO, I'm gonna fix that up some day". One of the guys wanting to buy was the previously mentioned father-in-law, who would have built it into a top-notch street rod. But then he would have sold it to somebody with money and no wrench saavy. And the age thing, NO KIDDING, my son says by time I finish this, I'll be too old to drive. He, however will be willing to drive me around in it.

You have the right attitude .

I got married in 1976 and bought my '46 3100 , it served me well until I foolishly sold it in 1991 , it was an unrestored work truck the entire time and drove all over the Western United States .

My young bride hated it but in time learned that if we had any place important or time sensative to go , it always got us there on time and in style if slowly .

Didja know ? more replacement 235 engines were built in 1957 than any other year , about $239 @ your local CHEVRLET DEALER ('Where Freind meets Freind ') and plenty of 216's were swapped out using them .
 
Thanks, Nate. I did not know about '57 being the year for 235's. Also had no idea about the cost back then. My engine was reported by the guy who I bought it from to be a '57 engine. The serial number only tells me it was built in Flint, and the month/day.
I've read some of your posts and can't wait to try the citric acid/water mix homemade rust-killer. I HATE RUST!
Back on topic, I e-mailed Art Morrison eng. to inquire about susp. kit prices and, well, they are... you can judge for yourself.
Front:$3545.00
Rear:$2175.00 (without housing)
Rear:$2850.00 (with 9" Ford housing)
No discount for ordering both at same time.
Does not include brakes, hubs, rear axles, third member.

Dealer Replacment 235's

I certainly wish I'da kept Bill's old Chevrolet price book as it detailed not only the 235 engine but all the various little bits you were supposed to use when up grading from a 216 to a 235 correct oil pressure gauges that matched , throttle rods , on and on....

I miss Bill greatly , he tought me *so* much , he was a Chevy L6 lover like me .

Didja know ? the Chevrolet Division made replacement 235 engines up to 1964 that I know about .
