cab and bed swap

hey guys! i have a question i was told by a old restoration guy that i could take my 64 cab and bed and put the on an 83 or 84 chassis as long as the wheel base was the same. is this true or is the only way to get the brakes and ect........to move those things to the original chassis?

Hi ventez6,

In my opinion, it is easier to just swap the components on to the old frame. A complete cab swap requires a lot of fabrication skills.

Looking for disc brakes ? Take the entire front crossmember, suspension and all, and bolt it onto the old frame. No welding or fabrication required. Power steering ? REZ adapter will get you there bolt on, again no fabrication required. Rear end ? 70's coil spring rear will BOLT in to the old frame. (starting to see the trend here?) With all the pieces this can be accomplished in a few weekends. How long do you think it would take to swap cabs? My guess would be a lot longer than that.

If you are confident in your abilities to do welding and ad-hoc fabrication work then you have to be the judge. But I'm kinda lazy.
