carb trouble

ok, i just got an old quadrajet 4 barrell carb gave to me so i got a rebuild kit and rebuilt it myself. but its not the first one i have ever built, i built 2 others that run great. but i put this one on my truck and it runs strong as long as you keep it runnin but if you just let it idle it will run for bout 30 to 45 seconds and then just die. it will fire right back up with no problems and then die again in a few seconds if you just let it idle.


anybody got any ideas?
 
not sure, ive played with em a lil bit with no luck. cant remember exactly how they are suppose to be adjusted. ive heard run them both in all the way and then bring them both out 1 1/2 turns, others say bring them both out 2 1/2 turns. maybe someone on here can tell me for sure on that
 
Jay , I run them all the way in Just Back them out enough to where it wil run , usually Between 1/2 & 1 full turn , Then turn them out a little back out evenlly as possable untill You Hear the Best even sounding idle You can , Also have The breather off Why doing this to Make sure it has No restriction there .

I use a Cheap Vacume guage put on one of the Vacume lines with it Running. When You reach the highest Vacume reading While adjusting them They are set as close as You can get it . Jusy My 2 bits , best of luck . Bob
 
just encountered this problem wednesday.did the same thing as you describe.im prety sure its flooding its self out.when you have it running get a flashlight and look in the carb.when it shuts down on you keep looking and see if it is still dumping fuel in the carb.if so float is sticking on you.i think your float level is to low.float not high to close the needle seat.also check for crackes fuel inlet hoses,could be getting air.i hope this helps some.
