Cowl Hoods - Something Different

Looking at a photo of Twisters 4x4 got me to wondering about making a cowl hood that follows the contour of the existing 62-66 hood lines, basically raise a wider section, where GM put the stock raised section.



Then run the raised section back down to the hood, kind of like a '68-69 Camaro SS.



Seems like that might make the hood look a bit more "factory correct". Maybe not, might just be I think about this stuff way too much... .

Any thoughts?

If your talking of using the entire raised section you will have problems at the rear of the hood as the lower section is just that LOWER til it butts up against the cowl, that is kinda what I was thinking, I`m planning on making a wooden buck to fit the hood reveals,( V ) both sides, after I make my cuts from back to front approx 18-20 inches apart I make the buck so that it will ramp up the cowl hood about ten inches back from the point of the (V) raise it 2-3 inch and extend it 2 inch past the rear of the original hood line at the rear cut two filler panels for the side and use body dolly to roll the top edge down of the new cowl section and roll the lower hood section up so it will have a factory look with rounded corners.

Are you using the wood to hold the metal flat? That might be a problem, cause it isn't flat, it actually has a slight bow in it.

The bucks will be made to follow the reveals ( shaped to match ) and as wide as needed for the ramp, after I make my cuts in the hood length wise I will lay the first buck under the center section where I want the hood to ramp up slightly til I get a height of about 2 to three inch running towrds the back. Look at your camaro hood John and see what I`m talking about at the front. I will be using a rubber hammer until I get close and then lay the next buck on top of both the hood and the lower buck and do the same again...Tedious I will be using a shape guide for wood working the bucks.
