Crank Case Vent tube needed Y / N ?

Do not whatever you do block the vent tube! you will have all kinds of problems if you do. The breather is designed to release pressure from the crankcase caused by gasses blowing past the piston rings, no matter how new your engine is, you will get pressure building up inside there, heat expanding the air in the crankcase, blow-by valve stems, piston rings etc, if you block the release through the breather it will find another route, blowing gaskets, dipstick popping up and puking oil everywhere, smoke from exhaust all kinds of places. also you can get a build up of gasoline fumes inside a pressurized crankcase leading to a nice little bang doing all kinds of things!
You can use a modern type pcv type breather and vent it into the intake manifold but do not vent this way without a pcv/blowback valve, this idea is not so good for older worn out engines because it can tend to suck up oil fumes out of the case and cause excess exhaust smoke. there is a page on inliners web site on how to do this.

Road Draft Tube
It all depends :
If you like oil leaks all over the place and fouled spark plugs , by all means , install that plug .
@ my work there was this young fellow (warning , here we go about Brown not down) who bought a '53 and dumped _serious_ $$ into it , it puked oil all over the place and he was very unhappy , I noticed he was fond of showing it off to all his Mexican " brothers " but not to anyone else , one quiet day I caught him next to it and asked to pop the hood , it really looked sharp apart from the oil pissing out of every single gasket & joint on the entire engine , I asked him if he'd like to easily stauch the oil leaks and he got all pi$$ed off & snarled at me ' I don' need no white boy help ! I gots a good Mexican mechanic ! ' ~ his boob mechanic was -SO- stupid , he didn't understand the need for a crankcase breather....
That's O.K. for a general owner but -not- for someone calling himself a mechanic .
Poor guy gave up and sold the truck at a dead loss , all it needed was the Road Draft Tube re-installed .

The information did not sound like good advice to me so that it why I brought it before the Guru's for validation.
The vent tube will now become a permanent fixture on the old 235.

Road Draft Tube
Remember , it is full of baffles and often is all plugged up with sludge & goo , how to clean it ? Simple :
Take that old BBQ and stoke the hell out of it ,as it turns red lay the road draft tube on the grill and close it up ~ after an hour or less, the heat will cause the built up sludge to burn away , be aware it'll stink like the dickens so make sure SWMBO is off visiting her sister or what not .
Once it's all done and crispy , let it cool and tap it on cement sharply until the ashes stop falling out , wire brush and re-paint , should be glossy black .
DO NOT BEAD BLAST IT !!! the beads will stick up inside it then over time they'll drop back ito your oil and grind the crankshaft etc. to junk....

I even ate Possum once
not only does it look like a big greasy rat , it tastes like that too ~ YUK ! .
BBQ is an art form , sadly I'm not fluent in it but I do know how to fetch wood & water , clean the grill and sack the ashes....

One big tip for BBQ's never cook till all the coals are white! its too hot when there are red and black ones, you just burn the outside and leave the stomach bugs alive an well inside. Patience is definately a virtue, if you are itching to throw that meat on, go get a beer instead, wait, and you will be amazed how much better it cooks!
