Sad commentary, Gater The kids of today will remember PS2, XBox and all those other game thingeys that has made them the mindless zombies that they are today. Nothing smells better than to open up the door of an old rust bucket that has sat in a field for so long that it has a tree growing between the bumper and the grill and smelling that nasty, musky smell and saying "Damn, that's sweet!" Maybe that why i always loved "Musk" cologne.
I was just in Walley's. Walking past the tire section I smelled all those new tires... Even THAT worked for me tonight! There is nothing like setting in one of these old rides smelling old interior mixed with o-l-d oil smells. or was that a mouse fart
Gas 19 cents and the old pumps with big bowl at the top. You pumped the amout that you wanted then drained all ot. I don't say those were the good old days just every thing moved at a different pace than today.
You're SO Right ! I sure would climb anything or do any job , if it meant I got to ride in an old truck to go anywhere , anywhere at all . When my son was 5 I sent him to spend a couple summers with his grandparents in Guatemala City , they gave him plenty of chores to do so he'd feel usefull and NO TV ! . It is sad that our kids to-day are not involved outdoors like we were so even though I live in the heart of the Ghetto , any day that was sunny , I shoved my son out the door and said " see you at suppertime and I don't want to catch you hiding at the end of the block ! " by the time he was 8 he knew how to roam far and wide , no one ever stole his bicycle after that 1st. nice one with the chrome frame dissapeared out of our front yard..... He'd take all his buddies out hiking al day in the mountains not far away . When he was 12 (or so) I was able to wrangle him a scholership in a fancy-schmancy Yuppie summer camp way the heck and gone up in Maine one fine summer , where he learned canoing and roughing it in the woods etc. When he arrived in High School , his teacher asked if anyone had ever seem the Northern Lights , he was the ONLY STUDENT in the entire High School (Blair High , Pasadena) to have seen them..... It's up to US guys ~ take the time to spend with your kids , even the bad times are good for them . Give them all the responsability they'll take and don;t be afraid to put your foot in thier butts if they do bad or lie to you but remember : the flip side is , you must also reward all the good behavior too ~ I gave him his very 1st. Moto , a Honda Trail CT90 @ 14 when he entered the 9th grade and told him if he didn't screw it up he'd be the only kid who rode a Moto to High School , if he screwed it up he'd have to ride the Ghetto buss across town with the other loosers.... Not only didn't he screw it up , he never gave even _one_ ride and always saved enough $ for gas..... Carried a 4.0 GPA from 9th ~ 12Th .grades and all AP classes and graduated with honors , no bad for a Ghetto kid who's daddy is a ignerant ex-farm mechanic with no schooling... -Nate
Did I Mention ? When I moved to New Hampshire , we had an original unrestored 1929 Chevy fire truck ? it was a pumper and I loved the annual springtime ritual of cranking it up and driving it down to the lower lake and hooking up the hoses and running the pump for an hour or so , I got to hold the hose and spray everything with water....... It had a small vacuum glass you could fill with water and then drain back into the pump to prime it , if you weren't careful when filling the glass , it'd suck water into the engine and wet all the park plugs and kill it..... Those were the days allright ! I loved riding on the big old rear step as we blasted down the dirt county roads , WFO , going prolly all of 45 MPH but it seemed much faster at the time .
