Electrical Wiring

A friend of mine has a 87' GMC 1500. I helped him drop an engine in it and we got all of the wiring hooked up. Everything works except the volt meter...but I am sure I can troubleshoot that. One thing that is giving me some trouble is that when the lights are turned on, both of the turn signals light up solid. When this first happened, I didn't know what to think. This is not suppose to happen...is it? This however does not affect the turn signal...when the lights are on and the turn signal is on, one is solid and the other still flashes on the correct side. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this....unless it is suppose to do this?

check the wiring for the frt lights for a missing or loose ground wire
the lights are back feeding through the signal indicators
also a crossed filament in the signal bulbs could cause this,but would have to be both bulbs for both indicators to come on
more likely is a ground problem.

No/loose ground on those side-lights

The ground wire is on LH frt by the headlamp may be behind the aux battery if equipped

also check the rh side ground by headlamp behind battery

Also check the signal sockets themselves by providing a good ground to the actual socket (they are known for failing internally)

Are the lights dim? i know w/o a gound the head lights are dim.
