hello all

I just recived a 300 hp. 350 today. I was thinking about putting it in my 65 C-20 fleet. Which tranny should I use?
How would a 4 speed muncie work? My truck has the dana rear with 4.11 gears (maybe 4.75). On that note which tranny would U recommend, and how expensive are they? What performance would I see? (allereration, top speed). Is it true that my rear gears would have good acceleration?

any help would be greatly appricated.

The acceleration and top speed are related to engine rpm and rear gear ratio assuming you use a Muncie(No overdrive) 1:1 final transmission gear ratio. So you need to determine engine red line and rear axle ratio to figure your top speed. Acceleration is effected by engine HP/Torque and rear gear ratio. Just as a guess. If you have 4:11 or 4:75 rear gears, your problem will be getting the rear end to hook up. You'll probably be spinning those tires trying to put the power down. Just a a little side note. Muncie had M20, M21, and M22. The also had a close ratio and wide ratio. Difference being wide ratio box was 2:52 1ST, 1:88 2ND, 1:46 3RD, and 1:00 final. Close ratio 2:20 1ST, 1:64 2ND, 1:27 3RD, 1:00 final. So you've got alot of choices to make. The M-22 is hard to come by and probably unneccessary. A nice M-21 in your choice of ratios is probably what you want. Some say the close ratio box is sluggish. I have one in a vette with a 454cuin engine and haven't noticed this but the car only weighs about 3500 lbs. Good luck.

Hi Mike. Do yourself a favor when you do the swap. Move the motormounts towards the front by an inch or so. This will allow clearance for an HEI distributor, should you go that route.

hi there, when installing a 350 small block in place of the 230 6cyl will i need new motor mounts. Also how can i move the engine forward to make room for my ehi dist. any info helpful thanks,monk

If memory serves me, there are three bolts holding the motor mount to the cross member. Move the back hole on the motor mount to the front hole on the crossmember. Drill out where needed. That will give you the clearance at the firewall for the HEI. Mine is in the stock location, and while it fits, MAN is it tight. When the new motor goes in the motor mounts are moving forward.

Keep in mind that the drive shaft will need lengthing too. Since I'm doing a trans swap at the same time, I'll need a new drive shaft anyway.
