Fenders...Fiberglass or Steel??

As is typical for these trucks, my front fenders are completely shot and need to use some from the aftermarket. I know that Chevyduty has both fiberglass and repro. steel front fenders. Has anyone tried the fiberglass? Are you happy with them? My specific concerns are with rigidity and the long term paint wear (I've hear paint on steel & fiberglass wears differently). I'm just wondering if I should spend the extra $'s for steel or not. Thanks!

The choice is all up to you. The steel and fiberglass both have the advantages. The fiberglass is nice because it won't rust, it's lighter, and cheaper (of course). Lots of trucks with tilt front ends are all fiberglass. The Corvette body is all fiberglass, as well as a lot of new vehicles.The steel is good if you're going for an original look, it also holds up better in wrecks. I've never heard of big differences in paint wear. As long as the fiberglass is preped right it will be alright. Hope this helps, but like I mentioned above, it's all what you prefer.

I have fiberglass front fenders in my truck. They're actually pretty durable. I got in a small wreck late last year the only thing that happened is the mounts snapped. There wasn't any cracking or anything like that. I bought the truck like that so i don't have any comparison to steel. All i konw is the bed is steel and i've got a little rust. I'd go with superman's answer, do what works best for you.

If your inner fenders and mounts are shot, I'd replace them too, especially if you're going glass. If you're not ready to replace these, then use the steel, it's a little more forgiving, if you need to do some creative welding, etc....
