Five Lug Front Disc Suspension

I just picked up a'72 C10 for parts with five lug and front disc suspension. I also recently just parted a 71 GMC with the same suspension. The only other time I've seen this on this era truck is on my buddy's '66 Suburban. Is this rare or worth anything. Thanks

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Mar-21-05 AT 06:44 PM (CST)]GMC and Chevy 1/2 ton trucks had six lug wheels with drum brakes on all four corners from the late thirties thru 1970 (inclusive) In 1971 disc brakes(with five lugs) in the front became standard equipment. Your friends '66 suburban undoubtedly had a previous owner that converted to the front discs. Nothing rare about it, just the way it is. The conversion to disc brakes on the earlier truck is valuable in terms of better braking, as a safety issue. But the additional $$ value added is a matter of opinion to the person that wishes to purchase the vehicle later on, as it saves them the time and money necessary to do the conversion, only if they had intended to do so.

As an aside, you should really consider taking one of those disc brake set ups, and bolting it into your '67 project, especially if you are upping the horsepower to any great degree. The entire front crossmember will swap right over.

But here lies a problem with this senario( probly mis spelled) the ball joints, inner and outer tie rod ends also have to be changed when you take the control arms and spindle off the 71-72 style and putting it on a earlier truck. Alot of people don't know this but when you cange to the newer spindle this is a must or it won't work right.

Jesses' correct, but most find that it's less work to take the entire crossmember, suspension and centerlink, and mount THAT to the earlier frame. It does require that the later model idler arm be used and care when positioning it on the frame rail, but some swear by it..

When I did mine, I looked at all the options, from every angle,,,, and decided on an aftermarket disk brake kit...
