I have a 53 5 window truck. Starter won't even spin all of a sudden. Has a stomp start button so replaced it and it cranked 1st time I hit button then nothing. Then pulled starter and button solenoid bench tested touching the copper plug on top to 12v it spun but would not spin a 2nd time till I manually turned the starter but still just get one spin then nothing. Opened starter all looks perfect, cleaned out put together and the same 1 spin happens?
Decided to buy another starter but question comes in with the starter I have is a Wilson 1107634 12v I also measured the pinion it is .99 inch so should be for a 12v flywheel , apparently if 6v pinion would be 1.14 inch, should I assume the flywheel has 168 teeth and order a 12v starter? Measuring the teeth would be a pain. Had truck for couple years don't hear any grinding when starting. I see NAPA list the starter for $156 but only the 6v. Will call Monday to see if they got 12v, just looking for opinions am I safe sticking with 12v without counting out the teeth in the flywheel? Sorry for being long winded. Thanks John
